I began my freelance illustration work in 1979 upon graduating for the University of Connecticut with a BS in Biology and a BFA in Printmaking. I spent 10 years as staff illustrator with the Walter Reed Biosystemactic Unit at the Smithsonian Institution and left in 1994 to return to freelance work. I have been a Board Certified medical illustrator since 1994.

I work in both traditional and digital media, black and white and color. My markets include magazines and scientific journals, trade and text books, advertising, and medical legal exhibits. My clients have included the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Mosquito Control Association, Carnegie Institute, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Chanticleer Press, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Entomological Society of America, Friends of the National Zoo, Interlink Healthcare, Inc., Medical Service Corporation International, Mathews Media Group, National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Nichols -Dezenhall, numerous law firms in the DC metro area, Saunders College Publishing, Science News, Smithsonian Institution, StackPole Books, Timber Press, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, and Wm. C. Brown Communications, Inc.

My volunteer work with professional organizations includes 6 years on the Board of Directors of the GNSI, as president and as treasurer, and 4 years on the Board of the Vesalius Trust. In the capacity as GNSI representative, I also served on the Board of the 1994 World Congress on Biomedical Communications.

I live in Darnestown, Maryland with my husband Thomas Parsons, a molecular biologist, and our two sons, Corbett, age 9, and Ian, age 4.
